Material: Pure Mulberry Silk
This saree is crafted from 100% pure mulberry silk, known for its luxurious texture, natural sheen, and unmatched softness. Unlike other varieties of silk, mulberry silk is produced from silkworms that feed exclusively on mulberry leaves, resulting in a finer, smoother, and more durable fabric. The use of 4-ply yarn ensures enhanced strength, a rich drape, and a fuller appearance, making it ideal for both occasional and formal wear.
Weaving Technique: Double Weaving-
The saree is woven using the traditional double weaving technique, involving two sets of warps and wefts. This intricate process results in a more textured, reversible, and durable fabric, capable of supporting elaborate motifs and bold patterns.
Weaving Time- Depending on the design complexity, each saree takes 10 to 25 days to weave. During the monsoon season, this process can take even longer—sometimes over 25 days—due to the lack of sunlight which is essential for drying the yarns.
Interesting Fact- These sarees are never folded by any machine. Once woven, the fabric is sun-dried, then rolled on large wooden logs to prevent creasing. Only after this careful process is it hand-folded into its final form, preserving the texture and integrity of the silk.
Care Instructions for Pochampally Silk Saree-
- Dry clean only is highly recommended to maintain the fabric's shine and longevity.
- If hand washing, use cold water and a mild, silk-safe liquid detergent.
- Do not soak the saree for long durations to prevent color bleeding.
- Avoid wringing, twisting, or scrubbing the fabric harshly.
- If ironing is required, use a low to medium heat setting and always iron on the reverse side or place a thin cotton cloth over it.
- Store in a cool, dry place, preferably wrapped in a muslin or cotton cloth to let the silk breathe.
- Keep away from direct sunlight when drying to avoid color fading.
- Slight color bleeding or fading may occur initially due to natural dyes used in traditional weaving.
